Coaching Hires

I just had a direct report tell me he was leaving his current position for another job. What a pain in the ass.

It made me think how fcuking crazy the process is in hiring a football coach. Schools are willing to turn over an 8 figure business to someone they barely know and who hasn’t been vetted. You don’t need to post your job. You don’t need to interview less represented peoples. You just hire as soon as possible.

The Bama AD said he hadn’t even met DeBoer before last Thursday and they hired him the following day. No wonder so many bad hires occur. The process is just a disaster. Hell there isn’t even a process.

Saban retires on Wednesday, Lanning and Norvell both say thanks but no thanks and get paid by their current employers. Then they hire DeBoer the following day.

That’s fricking insane. What other profession works that way.
