There is a difference between hiring based on a resume and knowing the person. Pretty hard to get the right guy when you don’t know anything about him.
You are paying tens of millions of dollars for someone to run a 100mm business and you meet him 24 hours before agreeing to a deal. The word of the year is “culture”, how in the world does someone know how that person will affect and form to the culture of your program when you’re entire frame of reference is 12 hours? That’s crazy.
You don’t know the person, what s/he is all about. Hell, the NFL has a better process. It’s why so many hires are just awful.
I’m looking at KD’s staff he’s putting together. My prediction: this isn’t gonna work in Bama. KD is going to wind up being too small for the job and he didn’t surround himself with enough SEC types.
