two very good posts - get the reasoning. won't be an instant continuation of the dynasty without a hitch - pretty much no matter who. Lanning is very impressive but was a coordinator in the SEC as opposed to DeBoer having a history of several successful previous HC jobs. Don't recall Norvell's entire background but recall discussions of fan's questioning his hire when it happened. That edge that DeBoer has makes him stand out to me - attention to detail also. But his inability to get Robinson to return instead of going to Georgia hurts for sure.

As always it depends on the question one is asking. imo DeBoer stands out among all the coaches I know about in you're looking for who could become the next best coach in the game - at college level; I think he could be that. IF he doesn't have another success and then leave for the NFL sooner rather than later.

Is he the best candidate to quickly rebuild the dynasty and keep it all going? You make some very good points. I think he'll make it work at Alabama - but it's likely to dip for a bit before he gets his program in place and makes it work out.

If his first teams are good, not great - with UGA on top, LSU and Ole Miss - and to a lesser extent (at least so far) Tennessee - on the rise and now Texas joining the party, would their team finishing third or so in the SEC the next two or three years be tolerable for the fanbase and the donors?

Most are convinced Harbaugh is leaving Michigan (as some of their top players already are) so turnover at UW, Alabama, Michigan all together - going to be quite interesting to watch how they all do next couple years
