that they appear to be putting on Chip, the coaching search will be bizarre.
If they just want a guy that can coach, and will be reasonably strict re conduct and academics, then there are bunches of guys out there. Let's, for once in the last 50 years, go hire a coach away from another school. It is only slightly hyperbolic to say this is the most important hire for the job in the history of the school. Let's do it right, for once. No alums that are hired b/c of their popularity with UCLA fans (i.e., no one else would hire them as a HFC). No guys that are working in a broadcasting booth. A working HFC. Yes, a star coordinator will do. But, just go hire a guy that is doing the job right now that we want done. For once.
For me, the Mendoza line is Dave Doeren at NC State. He get's paid $5.25 million. We could give him a raise. We should hire a guy with a resume that is similar or better.
I'll bet a bunch of money, that the buyout on Chip's contract is waive, to get him out of here. But, if not, that would give up some money to put toward a buyout. And, unless I'm mistaken, this will be the first time since we hired Toledo where we not paying the previous coach, while looking for the new coach.
