UCLA was paying Chip north of 6mm. We have a new training facility. We have a sports and nutrition department, etc. UXLA has never provided a coach more support than now. Not even in the solar system. Ask Neuheisel or Mora.
I also don’t buy the academic angle. We will take anyone that Michigan or SC takes. I still request anyone to name me a kid we couldnt recruit that other could out of high school that we rejected. About the only example anyone can come up with is Bryan Addison. If you recall the service flagged a portion of his SAT that only UC requires. He went to Oregon. Guess what….hes now at UCLA. This narrative has been spun by Chip to justify his lack of desire to recruit. Hell, we take tons of kids from academic powerhouses like North Texas, Wyoming, Toledo, etc.
Wilner asserts that the next Chancellor will be much more football friendly, but I don’t think Block was anti-football, but just ambivalent.
