Barometer of what? That looks as much like an indication that we have academic constraints as anything else.
Re "we brought in guys from lousy colleges" argument, you think that's persuasive? College success at pretty much any accredited four year college is a better predictor of academic success than bringing in a guy that's barely scraping a 2.0 in HS. Like, the Murphys went to North Texas. Hardly a bastion of academia. But, I bet they got good grades there. They both appear to be sharp as a tack. But, North Texas! They must be stupid because North Texas! Is that your argument?
You wouldn't stand in front of a jury and make that argument. Don't know why you think it flies here.
