Chip offered 31 four and five star players his first recruiting cycle. Under Guerrero, who hired him.

W/o getting out a calendar and lining up the months, Jarmond came in shortly after that first recruiting cycle.

Now, clearrrrrly, something bizarre happened. UCLA's recruiting plumeted to shocking depths. A huge turn was taken.

Yes, Chip was always reportedly a "lazy" recruiter. But, he recruited and got good classes at Oregon. Certainly consistently top 20. Probably higher.

Did a guy who is just passing the middle of his career, a whole lot of years left, just suddenly decide he didn't care about winning? Or, his legacy? Or his next job? He pounded the pavement, hat in hand, for a year and couldn't get a job until his buddy had an opening. That was a predictable result of his record at UCLA. Is he so lazy that he just said fck the rest of my career, I'd rather sit on the couch and watch 1AA, D2, and D3 games rather than recruit?

Or, with Jarmond coming on the scene, did UCLA decide they wanted a squeaky clean program? Following the Mora era where almost every season there was a rotating series of supsensions.

For me, UCLA being UCLA, I think it's muuuuuch more likely that there was a change that came from the top than Chip just decided "recruiting? F that. Screw the rest of my career, screw my legacy."

I don't see what the nutrition thing has to do with this discussion.

And, I don't expect to convince you, or anyone. I'm just stating my opinion. It might be wrong. I doubt that anyone on the board buys it. Frankly, I think the "Chip is lazy" explanation is .... lazy. No one that has made it as far as Chip has is that lazy. And, if this horrific recruiting wasn't driven from the top, there would be some kind of disgruntlement expressed from the top, rather than Jaromd's aphoristic "we're exactly where we want to be. We have good guys, that are good students, that want to be at UCLA" statements.

That's just, like, my opinion, man. Just a fat guy on a couch, sizing up the evidence. Now, where did I put my tinfoil hat?
