To sum up my thoughts on Chip's recruiting overall:
Chip held that first class together and did ok.
He then was poor for 2 straight classes (pre Jarmond + pre NIL).
He then improved a little the next three years by mining the portal. During this time Jarmond was hired and NIL became a thing.
Chip never recruited well from the high school ranks and was saved by the portal for a time.
The portal lifeline dried up for Chip, probably because of lack of NIL money, after donors gave up on him.
With Chip checking out and looking for a new job, and with blood in the water from a poor season, the last class was a disaster.
With no program momentum, Chip's wanderlust, and no NIL money, prospects for future recruiting were bleak.
No dip in recruiting correlates to either the onset of NIL or Jarmond's hiring.
