Problem: Ucla Athletics is carrying a $220 million debtor in possession financing (academics quietly whisper this as a "deficit"...).
Problem 1: $220 million dollar debt. Morgan Center response: We gave away t-shirt sales to ASUCLA back in the 1960s.
Problem 2: $220 million dollar debt. Morgan Center response: College athletics is changing. We're doing everything we can.
Problem 3: $220 million dollar debt. Morgan Center response: We gave away all suite and corporate box revenues to the Rose Bowl when we signed a 30-year lease in 2010.
Problem 4: $220 million dollar debt: Morgan Center response: Olympic sports cost $34 million a year.
Problem 5: $220 million dollar debt: Morgan Center response: We brought in a guy from Marvel Comics who's going to "improve the fan experience" and generate new "revenue streams" by raising ticket prices and staging Taco Tuesdays outside the Rose Bowl before each game. (Note to Marvel Comics guy: higher ticket prices are not compatible with improving the fan experience.)
Problem 6: $220 million dollar debt: Morgan Center response: We're gonna set up corporate booze lockers in Pauley and behind the south endzone in the Rose Bowl.
Problem 7: $220 million dollar debt: Morgan Center response: Our donors can't pay NIL and us at the same time. So...we're doing everything we can. We mentioned that earlier, right?
You people on this board are absolute complete fools for supporting Ucla. Bruins yes, Ucla no. They gave away the keys to the kingdom decades ago and haven't done a single thing about those mistakes, even as "college football is changing". They've sat back passively and allowed their asinine deals, the kind only an 8th grade social studies teacher would make, and the changes in the industry to overtake them, bankrupting the program and turning my beloved football team into a fake knock-off of what it once was.
Fire the whole lot of them. Contract with outside talent with alert, up to date business and football people who can rebuild the on-field product and maybe, maybe people will start going to the games again and you can stop going into the restaurant and booze business. And maybe NIL will pick up too.
Find a way to break the RB lease even if you have to go to Sofi or some other venue. Break the deal with ASUCLA if that's so important. Why haven't these things been done? Where are the lawsuits? Where are the negotiations? Where's the energy, competence, leadership and drive?
As former basketball scrub Bob Myers asked: "How does this thing not sink?"
Get Ucla away from the football program while we still can, and then maybe college football will be changing here at long last.
P. S.
First look: Frenk is fake. Just keeping the seat warm.
