One of the announcers indicated that Pierre has done such an admirable job filling in for Manny, that he doesn't deserve to go back to the bench. That said, there's no place for him to go, so the suggestion was made to try and trade him for a pitcher.
It would be tough to lose him, and another announcer rebutted the fact that other teams expected to compete are hurting right now for lack of depth.
For Pierre's sake, you'd love to see him go somewhere he can be used. But, it's a tough decision any way.
