an American. Now I'm embarrassed, trending towards being ashamed.
I was born a few years before December 7th, 1941.
I have bits of memory of those pre WWII days, including wondering what happened to the small Japanese market were my mom bought produce and about the night shift my dad worked at Douglas Aircraft as a Jig Builder.
Fast forward from then to today and a lot has happened. A lot of people have suffered or died due actions taken in their name by their governments. Even this country where "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" is still aspirational, even after 250 years.
We're not as great as we'd like to think we are, but in spite of Trump being in office, the people are still sovereign and the courts are doing their job.
And over those 250 years we've come apart once and brushed up against it some other times, one of which is right now. There's nothing wrong with our system of government, but there's a lot wrong with those who are currently attempting to destroy it. The "We The People" deserve better.
