I agree with the rest of your points, but I may need to revisit some books on the Iraq war. I know it was eventually left in rubble/shambles, but I thought much of the work we did was going door-to-door and clearing out insurgents (or maybe I'm confusing that with Afghanistan). Regardless, all war is hell, whether its targeted "urban warfare" or total warfare of the Dresden or Hiroshima kind.
