The thing I can't figure: if Chip was doing so well, why did he quit?

If he'd already found success (football and culture), and Jarmond was happy with him, and Wasserman publicly supported him, and the outgoing Chancellor had no interest in getting rid of him, and he loved living in Manhattan Beach, and his players love him so much, why leave millions on the table? Because of 2 meanies on BRO? I don't think it was to help an old friend, seeing as he interviewed with several NFL teams first. It wasn't to go to an NIL juggernaut, since he apparently interviewed with U of Cincinnati a year ago.

Since you value words people say to the media, Chip himself said late in the season he thought he was doing a "great" job. If he wanted to just call plays, and the powers that be liked him so much, why not make himself OC here and let Foster take over as HC? Apparently, he was doing so well here he could write his own ticket.

I think the simpler explanation is that Chip abandoned ship right before it was about to sink. And when Foster has a bad season next year people are going to blame him instead of Chip, even though Chip himself got a 3-year pass when he started. And OSU will win like they usually do and the sycophants will say look at what a great coach Chip is.
