When no extension was offered at season's end, that was it. Done. The parties agreed to part ways it was only a matter of when.
It didn't make sense for Chip to resign and leave $6mm behind. Indeed, it looked as though wasn't walking away from that $6mm until at the last moment the tOSU job popped open. Day is essentially Chip's brother and they've coached together for many years. He took it. Not sure where you see the mystery here or how your clairvoyance is in evidence.
