The first rule of QB draftees is “Thou shall not be drafted by the Jets”.

The other HUGE difficulty in the evaluation of a QB is how he processes and his mental makeup. Those are just very difficult to evaluate. Most colleges are one-read offenses or even no reads. I’ve seen some theories that it’s better to draft a QB from a mid school because you can see how they deal with constant pressure. You don’t get pressured at Bama or UGA or Ohio State or oklahoma like you do at ole Miss or cuse or ucla. OTOH, you can be ruined too with too many hits etc.

Chicago has to see Mahomes like ability in Caleb. He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to him, but what makes Mahomes so great is his intellect (and the coaching). Mahomes has learned (maybe by necessity because he doesn’t have elite WR anymore) to just take what the D is giving him. His decision making (while having the gunslinger ability) is astounding. Caleb has a lot of this physical attributes. I certainly have no idea about his intellect and leadership abilities.

I’m bullish on Caleb, but historically, Chicago isn’t the place that’s successfully developed a QB. Another issues is the HC just fired everyone and is in the last year of his contract. That instability rarely leads to success and leaves open a power play by Caleb and his advisors. OTOH, the Bears have a ton of draft picks (thanks Carolina) and more than a few nice pieces. Chicago is also in a REALLY tough (and young) division.
