and according the cgpt, Kiffin's resignation buyout in his first year is $7 mil. We know his termination buyout is muuuuuuuuuuch larger than that. Now, we know, LSU are a bunch of idiots too. But, my understanding, based on what cgpt tells me, is that resignation buyouts are typically much less than termination buyouts.
It's my recollection that Chip/OSU paid UCLA $1 mil for his buyout.
I'm fine with the player fluidity, with the same caveat as coaches, and I've mentioned this before. The players NIL agreements should be multi-year, and their should be liquidated damages clauses for them leaving early - I'd phrase it that the damages clause is kicked in if they sign on with another team. If they are transferring for academic reasons and aren't going to play football anymore, fine - vaya con Dios. But, if they are going to play for another team, they should pay for their breach of contract.
Do that and it will add a whole lot of viscosity to player (and coach) movement. I'd put players on a rolling two-year contract, which ceases on the exhaustion of their eligibility. And, the contract would apply to leaving early to be drafted.
