Make it make sense.

What many on this board seem to argue is that Jarmond wanted to fire Chip (we don’t know when) and that Block vetoed. This doesn’t make sense based on the timeline

1. Chip interviews for the Cincinnati job after Like Fickell takes the Wisky job and Chip doesn’t get the job. Satterfield is hired in 12/5/22. If you don’t think he interviewed watch the video in a thread below. Lombardi is unequivocal. It has context and is very clear. My editorial, he wanted to avoid taking his awful roster to the Big 10.

2. Jarmond extends Chip in December of 2022. Maybe there is a connection with the Cincy job, idk.

3. This year Chip interviews for Oakland at least twice. He interviews for Seattle Seahawks job multiple times. He interviews with the Quinn administration in DC. He interviewed with Ohio state pre BoB and post BoB. He also evidently interviewed for the Iowa OC position.

So we are supposed to believe that the AD, in contravention of the Chancellors mandate told Chip to GTFO. I’m going to presuppose the reason Block meddled in Jarmonds decision is because he wanted his successor to be the decision maker in the states highest paid employee. There could be other reasons, but I can’t think of a more rational one. Yet remember we just extended Chip in 2022.

About the only rational reason I can fathom about Chips wandering eye post extension is how the Lynn negotiatinga went. Nothing else really changed. Otherwise, why sign an extension if you wanted to leave. The issue is he already had a wandering eye with, at least, Cincinnati.

The question is what changed from 12/22-12/23 in Chips mind?

The most likely scenario is what Wilner suggested. He knew he was gonna get fired next year because his roster stunk, was gonna get smashed in the 10 and the new chancellor would want to put to bed the only thing that matters in athletics.

BUT it all backfired. Now our coach is gone in early to mid Feb, the lame duck Chancellor is forced to sign off on something he doesn’t care about and didn’t want to deal with, with a vastly diminished pool of candidates.

Disaster.
