and business money (see shoe companies, agents, financial outfits etc.) benefitted the most. The longer they were ingrained in the system, the more long term security they had.

Very corporate (and sleazy) prep training camps/schools feed the recruits. Those who swim are heavily discouraged from transferring (coach won't sign off until the player transfers to a place of his liking) while those who sink are whisked away (Colorado this year is the latest example).
To bookend this, agents & financial advisors are matched with players as they migrate to the professional ranks. Look at how many non-CAA have been drafted out of University of Kentucky in the past 15 years.

The transfer portal rearranged the economics behind this. Connection coaches were marginalized with the more adaptable coaches rising up. Ergo why the old guys bounced.

The same thing is likely to happened to higher league and NCAA management. Those unable to sell to tech media outfits will be replaced.
