Israel was recognized within the borders of that mandate.

Israel has occupied or annexed land since then. For years he entire Sinai (part of Egypt) was occupied, along with Gaza.

Many of the settlements are in fact not recognized, like those on the West Bank. Numerous UN resolutions reject the annexation of West Bank land.
