income, a lot of whom want to make big bucks with minimal effort or time, think betting on would give them a better chance of high return. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm sure there's some mathematical region where the curves of likelihood meet high return meet such that it makes sense to bet on something you're not convinced will happen, but on the outside chance that it does, it'll give you beacoup bucks.
