I only got to watch the 2nd half. I was hoping for a double digit win and got, so that made me very happy.
What really has me even more excited than before was I saw a lot of Bruins at the Oakland Airport yesterday and today. Seems to be an energy level coming back. Had a really good conversation with a guy who seemed to know quite a few somewhat inside things with UCLA and the AD. We were talking about the timing of the Jarmond firing, Rose Bowl lease, UCLA getting the rights to their name again, other expenses and ongoing issues. Personally, was just ecstatic about the Chesney hire. He is doing everything I wanted in a HC for UCLA. Really looked forward to yesterday. As far as Jarmond, it just sounded like that did have to happen at sometime. I think the thing where UCLA really lucked out or came into good timing is the announcement of the Lakers sale and Tim Harris coming on board now.
As far as UCLA football and the future, I just think we will have to fly under the national radar for a while which I fine with. An ACC plays a B10 team and the start time is 7:30PM PST? Our first B10 home game is 8PM PST? No question it will take some time to get some respect. But I am fine with that. Just want to see the fan support to continue to grow and by what I saw the last 2 days, I think it will. I'm not expecting a dramatic turnaround, but with Chesney and Co., I could possibly see a run at a top 25 spot somewhere during the season.
The 98 season really messed me up as a fan and there have been ups and downs up til now. I don't even know how to describe the last few years. There is still a lot of work to go, but it really feels like maybe now, there are genuinely people in place to make the right things happen. Right now, it feels pretty good.
