I'm a walking antique and go back to the days when 9-1 UCLA
didn't go to the Rose Bowl or any bowl.
Now, in some years, sub-.500 teams have been to bowls.
There's a high school near me - Christian McCaffrey attended -
that has an almost unlimited perimeter of players it can field, and
they demolish everyone in-state and out-of-state, including
schools that have defined and immediate boundaries.
There don't seem to be any boundaries in college sports right now.
If pros can play in college football, pros will be allowed to play in
college basketball and every other sport.
As for paying college athletes, they already get paid ... education,
meals, travel (some out of the country). Perhaps cash payments could
be limited. $12 million for some kid to play basketball is absurd, just
because we get boners when our teams win.
