UCLA did not fire Chip! Chip quit. And the timing of his quitting made it difficult to hire a credible replacement.
If UCLA had fired Chip in a timely fashion, it could have made a play for Jedd The Fisch or Jonathan Smith. Or someone else who may have been looking to make the jump when the coaching carousel was in full swing.
Chip let the music stop and then took his lazy butt to Columbus.
