As soon as Jarmond committed to 96 hours, the list was extremely small and already in the works for probably months. In 96 hours, you already have a good-to-great relationship with the next guy and have already done your homework. There was no way we were going with any currently employed HC given that time line
Especially as Foster was the Associate HC last year, this has been a preparation for awhile, even if it wasn't a done deal.
Heck, even the players knew he was a serious candidate and lobbied for him.
I rather thought it might be Lynn (given that timeline), but figured Foster was right there. It could also have been one of the re-treads without a job now (Shaw, Carroll, Neuheisel types), but I don t think any are equipped for the modern era (maybe Carroll, but at his age, I doubt he wants to deal with it).
Getting someone young and hungry who will recruit HS and the portal and boosters with fire, and who knows UCLA was the right move BUT, that comes with the whole 'are you actually ready'? Issue, and you don't know until after at least a year and a recruiting/portal cycle.
Now we just need some of the UCLA Film School Alums to get some players into the movies/TV!
