Was challenging as there were scores of players who were not able to be considered as recruits. Their standards went far beyond players being ncaa qualifiers. The fact that they were competitive at any point speaks volumes. They required recruits to have taken multiple AP classes in high school. I was at one of the top high school programs in California during that time and had guys with 3.5 gpas or higher... made it to the NFL and were never under consideration by Stanford.
He wouldn't have that issue now
