It’s harder to start a rebuild at this point in the cycle. If you’re a prospective HC, your boss (Block) is leaving in June. UCLA couldn’t be less attractive than it is right now. Bad roster, no Chancellor. If you go the interim route that sets you back another year. That’s another cycle with no recruiting and a roster that looks like Swiss cheese.
OTOH, it’s not like Chip has been hiding his desire to leave so it’s possible Jarmond has a rabbit to pull out of his hat. This is probably unfair because he hasn’t made a significant hire during his tenure, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in him (primarily because of he extended Chippper twice).
I’d love to hear if we enforced his buyout or what they settled upon.
