Why no love for Swinney?
My sister and her husband attended the January 2019 FBS Championship in Santa Clara (daughter was a Clemson grad). They took a bus shuttle to the stadium. After Clemson crushed The Tide, my sister conversed with an Alabama fan on the bus on the way back.
The 'Bama fan said something like "We may have lost this game, but whenever Saban leaves, we're gonna take Swinney from you."
My sister reminded the fan that Swinney had just won a title with his son at Clemson. "He's not going anywhere."
So my impression was that, at least for a time, Alabama fans considered Swinney a good option.
