Considering that we had around 60K killed and 150K wounded in Vietnam, Russia over 500K KIA/wounded already with no end in sight with this war.
In 2 years, there are roughly ten times more dead/wounded than what Russia lost against Afghanistan.
The leader of the Ukrainian army said that they underestimated how many killed Russia was willing to absorb. This war to create a cost to Russia has become one of absolute attrition. I belive NATO and Ukraine were both slow to realize this.
