Our local county clerks office is advising couples getting married to NOT change the name of the wife if they're not a US born citizen,not US citizen but US BORN. That is because if you have a passport and REal ID if you get your name changed, it won't match what's on them and if you are not US born there's a chance ICE could detain you and then say your ID and Passport are not valid
Also of course if naturalized, your married name wouldn't match that so even carrying around the original document would not protect you.
