Here is the problem with that theory: Trump is putting a rank incompetent in charge of creating the datasets. E.J. Antoni has never published anything on economics(except in-house Heritage dreck) and is unqualified! He is wishing any competent person who puts data he doesn't like into the cornfield, the same way the USAID destroyed food supplies or the NIH killed vaccine and medical research. Having true numbers around is dangerous to a compulsive lying demagogue. That is the precise reason he is replacing the capable people who have worked at BLS for decades.
Remember Hannah Arendt's axiom: "Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty."
Crackpots and fools cannot produce meaningful or accurate data, there only skill is producing data that Trump finds pleasing.
