I hope I didn't say they don't because that wouldn't be correct. They do. But the bigger they are, the more planned they are, the more likely it is that they can't stay a secret for long.
True, people can be eliminated, but ironically that ends up strengthening the folk theory about the conspiracy and gives it more fuel. I'm guessing the most effective way to combat a conspiracy theory is to flood the zone ... though to be fair, once the public goes down that road, the zone will get flooded naturally. No extra work needed.
The history of the CIA in the post-war period was one conspiratorial scheme after another, and they were all known at the time. Maybe not in details, but Iranians knew who was behind the overthrow of Mossadegh before the files actually came out, which is why they attacked the American consulate as soon as they secured the revolution in '79.
I am also well steeped in why Galatasaray always gets the penalty kicks they need when they fall behind in Turkish league games, and why crucial players who'll play them in a week or two start getting yellow and red cards at the smallest infraction (think NCAA and Duke under coach K) :) It does explain a pattern provides great speculative fiction, but how planned is this really? I feel like conspiracy starts when someone starts making and implementing a plan with a specific target rather than things that are an unspoken collusion.
Peace, as always.
