That’s why I said “I guess.” I was not trying to claim these things as being true. I was more postulating that some people would say these things. Girl courageous for taking a chance of being ridiculed (yes, by small-minded people, but still could be hurtful), and school not courageous but admirable, for breaking with old-fashioned societal norms to be inclusive (or to reward merit).
Even though I am generally liberal and not anti-woke, I am a little generationally challenged (Purist? Traditionalist? Ok, boomer?), in that I am not a fan of obese women in string bikinis, or of men, or less attractive (subjective, I know) or less “fit” women on the cheer squads. But of course you are correct, in that talent, skill, personality and spirit should be what merits inclusion on the squad, not looks, stature, or gender (or how much the parents donate to the school).
I guess I did a bad job specifying what is my own personal bias, as opposed to what I know is right and just. Sorry.
