...that speak to the rise of non-LA team swag in LA County and the fall of LA team swag in said region:
1. BITD, very few games were televised. I remember Oklahoma being punished (they were always being punished) via the NCAA not allowing OU games to be shown on TV. There were a couple of years where OU had a great running back, but no one ever saw him play (except those who attended games real time). So there was less inspo to sport OU gear (as just one example) then than there is now, given the number of "stars" that have played at OU (Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray, AD, etc.)
2. Immigration to SoCal: since "your time", there has been a substantial influx of people from other states into SoCal. Those people brought their pre-existing allegiances with them. We see this at Ram games, Charger games, etc. Sometimes almost half of the attendees are wearing the other team's colors at a LAR or LAC home game.
3. Since "your time", a greater % of people are actually going to college. Instead of choosing one of the LA schools as a default team to align with, more people are having a school they have an actual relationship with to support.
