ND has over the course of the past several decades received more favorable treatment from pollsters and selection committees than any program in the country and it isn't even close. They refuse to join a conference because being "independent" has allowed them to manipulate the system on multiple fronts.
Miami beat 4 ranked opponents, including ND and lost 2 close games against quality opponents. You pretty clearly have bias towards ND, because at the very worst it's a wash between ND and Miami, and if that is the case, all other things essentially being equal, how do you justify not giving the nod to the team that won the head to head battle?
Your statement about the networks wanting ND as some sort of reason why they should be in is the epitome of politics. And if ND doesn't like the fact that there can be benefits to conference affiliation, then they can just stay independent.
