I have reservations about whether an on-campus stadium would help much. While it’s a cool idea and I would personally enjoy it, I’m not convinced it’s the solution.
We already have an on-campus basketball arena that sits virtually empty for most of the year, outside of a handful of games. Even with the team starting the season highly ranked, student attendance at Pauley has been embarrassing.
It was encouraging to see the women semi-fill Pauley for the Tennessee game, but that only highlights that the issue goes deeper than the venues themselves.
I’m going to continue emphasizing the need for better marketing, but ultimately, a consistent contender is the real catalyst for change.
