Imo, UCLA does itself a huge disservice as an institution by treating sports as ... almost a nuisance. One example would be the splitting off of the branding of Athletics from the rest of the Uni. (15 years ago? I could be way off, the school decided to finally create "official colors." They are kind of a puke yellow and a gray that is tinted blue. You couldn't put a sports team out in uniforms with those colors. So, the Athletic Dept got a waiver.)

sc, in their corporate interactions leans sooooo hard into their athletic identity. And, I think it's effective. I've met a UCLA grad that is an sc fan because her employer has a partnership with sc. The employer gets sc mugs, note pads, etc. I know, the initial response is "you're whining about note pads?????" But, sc builds a ton of soft power in the marketplace tying their sports into everything.

You do business with sc, and your employess are part of the team. Saying Fart On, and everything.

Those things sway decisions.

Imo, UCLA is ignorant for not doing the same thing.
