That comment seems so over-the-top that I think you're right, he does have some interest.
Meyer is a winner, totally consumed by winning, which we could use. If he came and Nico stayed, we'd bring in a bunch of transfers and could be in the mix on day 1.
On the plus side, he would only come with certain NIL guarantees, which would dramatically raise the level of donor commitment and talent in the program. No more small-time BS at UCLA. And, he's still not that old, still younger than Curt Cignetti and Mora. Same age as Chip. Also, unlike some retiree coaches or TV guys, I just don't think it's in his DNA to go any less than balls-to-the-wall.
On the downside, great as he is, he's been out of the college game for a long time. And he would probably bring baggage and controversy. I don't know if UCLA is really ready for a character like Meyer, who is basically a win-at-all-costs mercenary.
He wouldn't be my first choice, but I would take his calls. And if we miss on 3-4 guys, I wouldn't rule him out.
The price tag, while high, would probably be similar to hiring Jedd Fisch, because Fisch would require a buyout, and Meyer would not.
