The message is, you will be fired after 1 season. The message to the rest of the coaching staff (if anyone stays) is you will be out of a job after one season. The message to recruits and players in the portal is the coaching staff will not be there. You still have to recruit as part of your job. I don't know of a situation where something like that has ever happened except maybe a former HC who became an AD and then went back to HC for a year. Not sure if that has even happened.
You see the world differently that I do. Things aren't really good right now, but the thought of that approach really would have scared me about that long term result. I don't think that would have looked well at all in national media.
Again, agents have a lot of input. That's what they are paid to do. For sake of argument, if Ucla offered $2 million and Foster turns it down, they were going to have to spend a lot more money to solve that problem at the time. In defense of the AD, Ucla didn't have days and weeks to make a decision, it was minutes and hours. That's why I'm still furious with Kelly.
If there was any argument I could buy into regarding the AD is him not extending Kelly's contract when he did.
