McDaniel was not a chump recruit. He was being recruited by Sunseri when he was at Indiana too. I think Clockblocker's point that Madden was seen as the coaches' preferred guy all along was the deciding factor.
I think the fact that he is from the Turlock area also makes SJSU a somewhat logical fit.
Re: chickens before they hatch, I agree. I also wouldn't count out Luke Duncan to start in 2026 if Nico leaves. He's gotten some good reviews. And he will likely get a few snaps this year.
