O'Brien did a fair job in Houston early, but 52-48 is not 'great' imo.

And he destroyed the Texans with his handling of DeAndre Hopkins. After that relationship deteriorated, he lost the team and was fired the next year after starting 0-4.

Though the Texans made the playoffs several times under O'Brien, they never made it past the divisional round...certainly good, but not great imo.

O'Brien's 2023 Patriots offense was ranked in the bottom 3 in the NFL...definitely bad. They were terrible.

I am not saying O'brien is bad just not 'great'. If you compare him with another contemporary, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy who has a much higher win percentage and similar uninspiring playoff performance (in Dallas), they are both in the good/above average category. And most people do not consider McCarthy in the 'great' category during his timne in Dallas or even the later part of his Packers tenure.

I consider 'great' NFL coaches to be like Bill Belichik, John Madden and Don Shula.
