What I posted is hypothetical in that a few things have to happen with Kelly and Bill O'Brien before any of this becomes more than conjecture.
Personally, I find it strange that a head coach making whatever Kelly is getting at UCLA ($5-7 million?) would accept a significantly lower position (financially) with a conference rival (next season), even if he were fired by UCLA.
I would think Kelly could do better than the OC job at Ohio State. But, that's pure conjecture on my part. But, perhaps he wants out of UCLA bad enough that he's willing to make such a move. I don't know the answer to that. I have no insight there. Time will tell.
I do know that Chip and Ryan Day are extremely close. Since Kelly coached Day at New Hampshire. Day was unemployed after two failed stops in the NFL when Kelly introduced him to Urban Meyer, who was in the process of putting together his first staff at Ohio State.
Meyer has always held Kelly in high regard as an offensive coach. Kelly, in turn, told Meyer that Day was an elite offensive coach and would be a good add to the Ohio State staff.
Kelly accompanied Day to Columbus when he interviewed with Meyer (I believe it was for the position of QB coach). When Meyer left Ohio State, Day was his handpicked successor. In his time as HC at Ohio State, Day has had three QBs selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
As for Kelly and his relationship with the UCLA AD and administration, I have no insight. I also don't know when Kelly is alleged to have made his proposal for improving the UCLA football program. I was told Kelly began to sour on Westwood when his ideas were rejected. Whether Kelly had an ulterior motive in making the proposal (like getting himself fired) is speculation by others. I've never heard anything like that before the comments in this thread.
I'm not a fortune teller. I've presented what I heard and what I was told in a short phone call yesterday. Rather than trying to pick it, or me, apart, let's wait and see what happens. And, keep in mind a lot of things have to happen (with O'Brien and Kelly) before any of this becomes more than conjecture.
