not to fan flames but I don't believe his response was okay. The questioner was, iirc, representing the MSU student publication. As such he was admitted as a media person. His question addressed the interests of his publication and its readership.
A response that the coach's interest doesn't address the student section. His players have to be above responding to fan cheers on the road would have been fine. Even a response that his focus was elsewhere - on his players and his team's prospects - would have been acceptable.
But to attack the question and call it the dumbest he'd heard is embarrassing. If a reporter from the Daily Bruin is accepted as a media member and asks a question at a news conference, I would expect him or her to be treated better than that. To me it isn't acceptable to show your temper to a youngster trying to do his job. I thought it was juvenile on his - Cronin's - part and just part of his ongoing temper tantrum. Well past time for him to grow up and act like an adult
