the two things that stand out to me is an overall lack of lateral quickness and a general lack of basketball smarts. The lack of quickness really hampers the teams' defensive efforts and effectiveness. The lack of smarts (this team plays dumb too much of the time) manifests in different ways from different people. Some examples of not playing smart are dumb fouls, forced shots, lazy passes, poor free throw shooting, poor spacing, bad choices, and bad decisions.
I watched one Bruin leave the man with the ball who was 3 feet from the basket to cover a man who was standing outside. The man with the ball was double teamed, but the man that left was the defender between the man and the basket. The other guy was to the side. Once the guy between the ball and the basket left, the man with the ball just put the shot up and scored. That was just plain dumb, something you might see in a junior high school pick up game with kids who don't really play basketball. I was just dumbfounded. That's this team - dumbfounding some times.
