Numbers like KenPom and Torvick are considered predictive metrics, because they are useful in predicting outcomes. The Vegas opening line is almost always very close to the KenPom and Torvick lines, because they are so good. The guys running the sports books want to use the best info available.
While being at the top of the scoring offense list is nice, the efficiency numbers are a better predictor of winning.
Fast paced-teams are some of the highest rated teams, but so are some slow-paced teams like UConn, Purdue, and Michigan State. There is more than one way to win.
