I'm going to agree and disagree. We aren't a quick team, but we're a pretty fast team. Like, I don't think Kiki is super quick. It's my recollection that she had trouble staying in front of Harmon from Texas. And, I don't see her doing what Fiso was does - beat your defender, but be under control enough to gather, size things up, then choose between beating another defender or shooting. When Kiki beats her defender, she's going to drive to the baseline, just about every time. She's very fast, but ok-quick. And, CLW & Gianna can almost always make up with intensity what they lose in lateral quickness. So, ya, teams w/ a lot of quickness could give us trouble the way Texas did. But, dang, if we'd played the first half like we did the second half ....
About the running. I feel like we could be the best running team in the country. I'm a broken record on this, and I apologize. But, Kiki, CLW, Gianna, and Gabriela are all very capable of making the final pass. Those same players plus Angela are all capable of getting us out on the break. And, almost every player in our rotation is plenty fast enough to take off when we get the rebound and finish a break. Our bigs are really really fast, including Muse. CLW is not super fast, but she's super savy. People aren't going to catch her from behind and block her shot, like they did to Jones multibple times last season. And, unless we're really off our game, passing to Gianna, Gabriela, or Kiki for a fast break 3. I haven't looked at this year's numbers, but Angela and CLW are good options too. Maybe Bilic is a very good option, we'll see.
The only one in our rotation that I don't know about finishing a break is Bilic. I just haven't seen enough of her.
We should be a fantastic fast break team.
And, if we're converting those opportunities, it doesn't have to be a track meet. If the opposing team is inbounding, we can get back and set up our D, same as if we'd run 20 seconds off the clock in a halfcourt offense.
These are just my opinions. I could be wrong. Just really like this team and enjoy talking about them. Appreciate the discussion.
