Ok, first the bad news.
1. the Defense (and rebounding effort) was bad
2. EWU was missing a guy expected to be a top 2 player.
3. TB looks like he plateau'ed on defense last year (and he's not at that point yet this year)
4. Our guards' height looks like it will be a defensive issue all year. Brown also looked lost on defense multiple times.
The good news:
1) Defense and Rebounding - this is the sh*t Cronin lives to coach, and he does it REALLY well. I expect the Defense and Rebounding to get FAR better as soon as the next game (tho TB and Height will be ongoing issues). Hopefully the ball pressure from the guards gets a lot better too.
2) Dailey will come back and his game should benefit the most from playing with Dent offensively AND he will be able to guard the 4's and switch all over on defense to cover for the guards much better than TB. I could see TB becoming a role player off the bench for this team with ED taking more and more minutes at the 4. ED needs to be a slasher/cutter everywhere tho, and not just stand around like most of our offense did last year. I think he'll do it.
It's game 1, and it's the type of Game 1 that Cronin will light a fire under them for.
