could have left after he was fired. Cronin successfully recruited every one of them to stay, even seniors Alex Olesinski and Prince Ali, who would become little more than glorified scrubs. Cronin also notably didn't bring any of his own players or recruits with him.
Since coming to UCLA, Cronin has already brought in three 5-star players and 12 4-stars (not counting Freeny). That's better than 2-3 per year.
You have to be a very hard grader indeed to call the freshmen class a "complete whiff." They scored 37% of the teams points, including Sebastian Mack's 399, which earned him a place on the Pac-12 All-Freshmen Team. Not many "complete whiffs" can manage that.
