IDF and Hamas can go after each other all day long for all I care.

Israeli and Palestinian civilians who killed nobody and want nothing more than a life with security and dignity, on the other hand, did nothing to deserve what IDF and Hamas keep dishing out.

That's the main point that "both sides bear responsibility" misses in all this. I'd say the better approach is "neither side (civilians) deserve what they're getting", not to mention Israelis don't deserve Netanyahu and his cabinet of butchers any more than Gazans deserve living under the shadow of a bloodthirsty organization like Hamas.

Now if you want to get into the nitty gritty of it, you can say that Palestinian civilians have far less control over Hamas and therefore bear less responsibility for their actions than the control Israeli citizens have over IDF and the responsibility comes with that, but that would be a naive reading on how democracies actually work, so I'll leave that to a different discussion. Just keep in mind that the argument is there to be made by someone a tad less cynical than myself.

I would say that "yeah, they kinda deserved what was coming" is not the proper response to the devastation going on in Gaza. That is really not how a lot of us see this.
