I think you're being a tad pesimistic

I don't do social media (in the sense that I only do FB and Instagram - my FB friends don't talk politics, by and large, and I don't go looking for politics on IG), so I'm not a good person to reply. But, I seem to have diarhhea of the keyboard today (stressful stuff with my kids does that to me), so what the hell. Regarding "Kill the Jews", as I've said ad nauseum, I only follow foreign media. The report I heard was clear that it was counter-protesters that yelled that.

The report I heard about the flag in the eye, and there was also a 2nd hand report about a rock being thrown at a guy, there was skepticism expressed. That was on the CBC.

Regarding "from the river to the sea" the divergent meanings are not just created by the audience, but also by the speaker. I'm sure that there are people chanting that who intend its worst meaning. I'm sure it's a minority, but I'm guessing it's some.

For me, a way the protesters could also generate positive publicity, would be to be demanding that the hostages be released. That would drive home the point that they are protesting atrocities, as opposed to politics.
