two things:
- the security risk now does not equal the security risk when they first decided this particular valedictorian must not be allowed to speak in the ceremony. The delta is the chain of escalation that came out of their initial reaction, so even if we assumed there are security risks now, that does not mean the risks they claimed back then were real.
- just because they decided to cancel things now does not prove that the security concern is high even right now. I don't know why you would assume that people in positions of authority are inherently honest with respect to why they do what they do.
